Prolapse occurs when the pelvic floor is weakened by childbirth and heavy lifting. This is worse when women are malnourished, have closely spaced pregnancies and resume heavy manual labor too soon after giving birth. Prolapse can be painful and debilitating. Surgery can help to alleviate the suffering of these women and hopefully help them to return to their normal lives.
